Signing into the Montana Unemployment Insurance Claimant Center

  • There are two options for logging into the UI Claimant Center:

    • Most new and returning users will use the Sign in with Okta button.
    • Some new users will use the Sign in with Login.gov button.

    • If you are a previous claimant with an existing Okta account, continue using Sign in with Okta.
    • If you are a new claimant who hasn't filed a claim before, you may be prompted to create an account with Login.gov to verify your identity. Once you have verified your identity at Login.gov, you will automatically be taken into the Claimant Center to finish your registration. When you return to the Claimant Center, use the Sign in with Login.gov button.

    Both sign-in methods take you to the same Claimant Center, where you can access your claim, file weekly payment requests, or send a web message.

  • No. Okta is a method for signing into the Claimant Center. The Claimant Center itself is the portal where you file unemployment insurance claims and weekly payment requests.

  • Where does Okta appear in the system, and how does it connect to Login.gov the Claimant Center?
    Okta lives on the front-page sign-in screen and is integrated into the Claimant Center experience, alongside the Login.gov option. Both paths lead into the same Claimant Center. Last Updated 9/28/26

  • No. If you originally verified your identity through Login.gov, you'll need to keep signing in that way. Your account and identity verification are tied to whichever method you used first, so switching to Okta isn't available once your account is set up that way.

    When you return to uiclaimant.mt.gov, choose the Login.gov option on the sign-in screen and use the same email and password you set up before — no need to re-verify your identity.

  • I already have a Login.gov account — do I need to create a new one for the UI Claimant Center?

    It depends on whether you were prompted to create an account with Login.gov specifically for the UI Claimant Center. If you were selected and have already registered through Login.gov for this purpose, you do not need to create a new account — you can access the Claimant Center with those same credentials through the Sign in with Login.gov button.

    Having a Login.gov account for another reason (for example, another federal or state agency) does not by itself give you access to the Claimant Center. Login.gov accounts are not shared across agencies for this purpose — you must have been specifically prompted to register through Login.gov for the UI Claimant Center. If you were not selected for that registration, you'll need to use the Sign in with Okta button instead.

  • This information is required as part of the Login.gov identity verification process:

    • Social Security number and date of birth
    • Home address, and mailing address if different
    • Phone with a camera
    • Photo ID
    • About 10 to 20 minutes

  • Login.gov works behind the scenes to make filing safer and get you to the right place faster:

    • It verifies your identity to confirm you are who you say you are before you can file an unemployment insurance claim. This step helps protect your personal information and prevents someone else from filing a fraudulent claim using your identity — a growing problem across unemployment programs nationwide.

    Once you've completed identity verification, you won't need to repeat that process each time. You'll simply sign back in with the same Login.gov credentials when you return to uiclaimant.mt.gov.
